Clean Up a Slow PC

Few things are as frustrating as when your computer is acting sluggish and glitchy. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to ensure that your PC continues to run smoothly. Routinely cleaning up files on your computer is an often-overlooked step that can greatly improve performance.

Defragmenting and cleaning up your files is a great first step if you own a PC, as it can speed up response times. The Disk Cleanup tool is user-friendly and helps you get rid of files you no longer need or use, empty your recycle bin, and delete temporary Internet files, which can take up a lot of space. The Disk Defragmenter is a tool that reorganizes files that may be fragmented, resulting in more free space on your hard drive and faster performance. In Windows XP, both the Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenting tools can be accessed by going to Start → Programs → Accessories → System Tools. In Windows 7, just type in the names of the tools in the search box.

It takes a little extra time to clean up your computer, but a faster running machine and fewer problems in the future make it worthwhile. Stay tuned for more practical computer tips!

  1. No, the cd that came with your computer cnnaot be used on any other computer, other then the one it came with, as it is an oem cd. You need it’s own vista cd, with it’s own keycode, as each computer recieves its own. One other thing you need to be aware of not all laptops or computers, are Vista capible, if you install it on a computer, that can’t handle it, you’ll run into a whole lot of problems. If I were you I’d keep it off the laptop. Vista still has a lot of bugs that need to be worked out and it hasn’t sold very well. Everyone I know that is able have all switched back to XP, as they were all disapointed with Vista.
